First Week In Malta

after two years

it’s time to settle. for a year?

Sunday, Malta — 18:30 to 00:00. Our plane landed at Luqa Airport after a nice landing. The airport is cute. High humidity welcomes you on the apron, and I assumed the climate is the same as in Greece, but it’s not. It’s too hot. Way more than Greece. With the advantage of being on a Sunday evening, the passport queue is short. We passed through passport control without any problems. 🎉

If you are in Malta for the first time and are tired, I recommend you arrange transportation with Bolt. The host of the Airbnb booked eCab for use. But Bolt is cheap and easy. Remember to download it before coming to Malta. If you notice cultural diversity from the first minute, A friendly and polite guy helps us with our luggage, and we reach the vehicle. We put four suitcases and two backpacks in the car as if playing Tetris. Electric vehicles are widespread on the island.

Our destination is our Airbnb house in Valletta. A standard Maltese townhouse with a sea view. It is small but a duplex, and it also has a terrace.

After unpacking our stuff, we went to the market for water and food. Even though the night is hot, we enjoy the terrace. And, of course, with the sounds of fireworks. Be prepared because explosions are a classic for Malta.

We’re in good shape for the first day.

First things first — Paperwork. We have a type D visa. So to get a digital nomad residence permit just two steps left. Step one is a lease, and step two is a biometric appointment. Then our residence card will be ready. I’m going through this part quickly because Heval will explain it later. I can only say that the days ahead are a roller coaster.

We only have three weeks to find a house to live in. We’re texting a few real estate agents until our biometric appointment on Wednesday. The places in our heads are Marsaxlokk, Gozo, Melliea, and St. Paul’s Bay. We have fantasies, like finding a character house. We’re contracting with a real estate agent in Gozo to visit a few alternatives on Saturday. Then we buy tickets online for the Gozo ferry.
